As your horse starts to shed their winter coat, itโs a great time to take a closer look at their skin health.
Shedding is completely natural, but it can reveal (or hide!) underlying issues. As all that hair comes out, keep an eye out for:

Scurf, dandruff or flaky skin

Bald patches or rubbing

Signs of lice or mites

Rain scald or lingering mud fever
Regular grooming is key this time of year - not just to speed up shedding, but to stimulate circulation and check for any problems early.
Top tips for healthy skin this spring:

Groom daily to remove dead hair and dirt

Clean and disinfect brushes regularly

Ensure a balanced diet with essential vitamins & minerals

Donโt forget parasite control - external and internal

Check rugs are clean, well-fitting, and not causing rubs
If your horse is struggling to shed, or you notice skin issues that arenโt improving, it could be a sign of an underlying problem and is worth getting checked.
